How HewnTree uses AI

What the AI does

• Reads your idea and decides which kind of idea it is, so the questions fit.
• Writes the questions in each batch.
• Checks every answer and comment before anything acts on it.
• Builds your requirements tree from your answers, and changes it when you comment.
• Suggests what might be missing.
• Writes the reminder emails, if you've turned reminders on.

Where your content goes

What you write is sent to AI models through OpenRouter, which routes each request to an AI provider. We only use providers that say they don't train on your content and don't keep it once your result is produced, and we ask for that on every request. That promise is theirs, though, and we can't check it ourselves, so keep anything sensitive out (see below). The full list of the companies involved is in Privacy Policy §4.

We don't name the models here because we change them as better ones come out. Changing a model doesn't change how your content is handled.

What stays with you

Your ideas are yours, and so is everything HewnTree produces from them. That also means checking it is your job. The AI can be wrong, miss an angle you'd have thought of, or put something in the wrong place. Read what it gives you before you rely on it. It helps you think; it isn't professional advice.

Leave out personal details you don't need

A product idea rarely needs real people's names or contact details, so leave them out. Write “the customer” rather than a customer's name. If a detail really belongs in the spec, such as a support address your product will use, it's fine to include it.

The same goes for confidential material: your employer's or a client's business details, or anything covered by an NDA. What you enter is your responsibility, as Terms §4 sets out.

When a check stops your text

The automatic check on answers and comments sometimes flags ordinary text. If it stops yours, rewrite it and try again. It looks for unsafe content and attempts to steer the AI. It also stops text that doesn't answer the question.
